How it all Started

A long while ago in the early 90's, Ayo Dawodu (nee Odeneye) had this fantastic idea of setting up an Alumni and spoke to a few Lasuites about it. Unfortunately, the concept of forming an Alumni did not receive the expected reception and never took off. Ayo Dawodu got involved in other activities and the idea seemed to die a natural death.

Years after, on a late summer afternoon in the year 2001, a group of five like-minded seriocomic LASUITES had a brain wave, perhaps due to the scorching sun. Ayo Dawodu was again part of this group. Others were Rita Fajobi (nee Ojekwe), Ronke Adeoti-Odusami, Joke Bada and Bunmi Laniyan (Oni). The idea of starting an Alumni Association UK branch was put on the drawing board again.

This group of five minded people finally got together in December 2001 for the inaugural meeting at the home of Joke Bada, to discuss the idea of setting up an Alumni with the key goal of assisting their Alma Mater and current undergraduates in achieving educational aspirations. Following a series of nail biting meetings, brainstorming workshops, liaisons with the Alumni in Nigeria and endless trips to Tasty Restaurant in Thamesmead for more brain cracking meetings, LASU ALUMNI UK was formed and branded.

By December 2004, the team behind LASU Alumni UK had held approximately 25 meetings, had been in liaisons with Nigeria, undergone various research, held several meetings and made countless trips to the Business Link centres, Banks, Charity Advisory offices and been heavily involved in producing loads of documentation in compliance with the registration process as a UK Charity body.

It has been a mammoth task which has been voluntarily and selflessly implemented by the five originating members of the Alumni (who as of December 2004 are also the Executive Committee). It is with sheer determination and dogged perservance that this dream has finally become a reality.

LASU ALUMNI UK is definitely a dream come true!
